Tales of Awesomeness #1

(This is a new DnD campaign we’re playing. It follows our heroes as they stamp their brand of awesomeness in the Mystara world setting. It is about six sessions deep already so I thought that it is high time I write something about it. New campaign reports will soon follow.)

PROLOGUE:
Report # III

25th Day of Klarmont

Commander:

The town of Iledan has exceeded all expectations. Contrary to our initial prediction, the town was able to meet all timber quotas during the past five months.  Captain Balakas is indeed clever in thinking far enough that he needed to first control the troubled Iledan Forest to minimize the risks to his start-up lumber town.

Through luck or blessing of the Immortals, the town was able to hire a capable security force. On two occasions, I was escorted by one of these mercenary groups when I was doing my rounds to collect local plant life. This group has gained quite a reputation for being the most successful thus far. Headed by an unusually noisy half-elf bard, they call themselves the “Team Hortons”. I never understood why they insisted being referred to as such when none of them is named “Horton”.

From the information I gathered, the Hortons have already cleared a wide area of forest, pushing back the local goblins and hostile beasts further up North. They discovered an ancient military outpost  which they now call “Camp Big Falcon”, and found an ancient longsword rumored to belong to one of the legendary warriors of Mol.

On a different note, Captain Balakas disclosed that followers of the Immortal Vecna are operating in the area. It appears that they are searching for something, the specifics of which, we do not know. By every account, this is the first time her followers were spotted in the open since the War of the Immortals ten years ago. I propose that Paladins from the Griffon Order be sent over to aid in the investigation.

Finally, your warning about the Veiled Society is duly noted. There is a possibility that they will attempt to control the local lumber trade. I am yet to confirm their presence in town but I can almost remember seeing the face sketch of one local mercenary wizard as one with prior connections with the group. I may need to look into this matter further.

The traders from Specularum are here. I will give this message tonight to the tradeship captain to deliver to you soonest. I will send out another report in the usual manner.
